KEXP

KEXP is a public radio station based in Seattle. It is a nonprofit arts organization serving music lovers through in-person, broadcast, and online programming.

The project was to create a feature that would enhance the mobile app.

The challenge

The way the current app is designed, the navigation is not anchored and changes location when you click.

Also, the linked song feature is not very developed. In the favorite section, the liked songs are organized alphabetically and beyond liking a song there’s nothing much one can do to interact with their music collection.

The new feature

Enhance the like feature and develop an Export list feature

pilot Survey

Interested get some insight on the environment (how, where) in which users listen to music. I also wanted to look out for any pattern in their listening experience.

I worked with one age group given that I will be conducting a pilot research.

Scenario

As someone who works while listening to music, I want to have an inspiring sound experience as that helps me through my long hours.

When I am working, it frustrates me to hear a song I don’t like. I either lower the volume or press next.

meet travis

Music is a big part of his life. Although he doesn’t play an instrument, he appreciates all genres of music including local, international, classical, and modern sounds.

Travis is a marketing manager at a network provider and is organized. He listens between 3 to 5 hours daily, mostly at work. Listening to music at work allows him to concentrate and disconnect. Also, as a runner, he is always putting together the perfect playlist for the day’s run.
